A series of open-ended sessions to allow the very youngest creatives to explore visual art in a nature-based, casual setting enriching to child and caregiver alike. Exciting monthly topics inspired by the seasons and favorite things will provide a general theme to tie together a variety of engaging and high-sensory activity stations rooted in drawing, printmaking, painting and sculpture studio techniques.

Introduction activities will begin promptly at 10:30 but feel free to drop in later or stay a while, clean-up/wrap-up will start at 12:00.

Recommended for ages 18 months to 5 years, though older or younger siblings are welcome. All children must be accompanied by a caregiver.

Registration cost is on a sliding scale of $5-15 for each toddler, plus $1 for additional siblings over age 5. Family group discounts available, check ticketing page for details. Free for adult caregivers and young babies in laps or arms.

Folk Art Printmaking

Crafters and creative thinkers of all walks will benefit from this design-centered exploration of pattern. Kristyn will lead participants through the process of creating a repeating design on fabric, inspired by a variety of folk art expressions including mehndi, rosemaling, mudcloth and wagara. You can look forward to a high sensory, mixed media experience using printmaking and drawing techniques.

Celebrating with Paper Flowers

Join Wayfaring Painter to learn several cutting and folding techniques for creating beautiful three dimensional paper flowers. We will explore how to select, utilize and arrange these decorative blooms for party decor, wreaths and everyday displays as well as digging into their significance in Dia de los Muertos traditions. During this session participants will also have the opportunity to work on decorating a community ofrenda honoring a local hero.

Create in Place: Watercolor Floral Wreaths

Wayfaring Painter is teaming up with the 352 Creates program and the Alachua County Library District to bring you this opportunity to “Create in Place.”

The Create in Place movement encourages you to create wherever you are and whenever you want on the second Friday of every month, to help demonstrate that creativity can engage and promote healthy communities.

Participants will learn basic watercolor techniques to create a floral wreath design. This will be a drop-in style workshop with a more casual instructional presentation - no need to commit to the entire 2 hours or be there right on time. Come by during lunch for a quick art break, or stay a while and use this as an opportunity to create something special for Mother’s Day!

This is a free event open to the public! No experience is required and all materials will be provided. Registration is not required, but room capacity is limited to 70.
